 Carlos Bobonis Colorado

FABLAB

Director of Fabrication & Material Laboartory

Coming from a family of artists and innovators; educated with a bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts and Communications of “Universidad Del Sagrado Corazon de Puerto Rico”, Carlos Bobonis decided to broaden his knowledge by studying industrial design. While studying for his master’s in Savannah College of Art and Design he discovers a creative culture not present in his home island. A global culture of like minded people who use critical thinking and to uncover meaningful insights that help them develop innovating product opportunities. Carlos immersed into this world by reading singular texts, listening to great intellectuals in the field, collaborating with other designers in the field and travelling the world with an open eye to the way design had transformed cultures and lifestyles. Back in Puerto Rico, Carlos had the opportunity to teach in the University of Turabo, where he mentored a group of selected students who will become the next generation of Puerto Rican designers. Young minds that understand the value of home grown innovative product creations that can be marketed and produced worldwide.

Carlos has a very clear goal in his life: To develop a community of designers in his home island. This community will be composed of creative thinkers with different skill sets, collaborating as a group to develop ground braking ideas to improve the life of the people of Puerto Rico. As the director of fabrication in the School of Architecture of the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, Carlos will serve as an educator of new fabrication technologies and the principal of a creative think tank, focused on developing new product opportunities for academia, the local community and the global markets.
